Welcome to the Sahel+ Group! Here you will find information and updates on our group, activities and members.
We are a group of ten National Societies coordinating on matters of mutual interest.
Our network comprises the National Societies of Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Chad, the Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal, as well as the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as observer members.
We come together every year for the Sahel+ group’s General Assembly in order to elect a new leadership, except for the post of Secretary, which is permanently devolved to the Presidency of the Senegalese Red Cross.
We have also elected a Youth Representative to make the voices of our youth colleagues and volunteers heard at the Red Cross and Red Crescent Pan African Conference and IFRC General Assembly Youth Forums.
Throughout the years, the Sahel+ group has established several initiatives on key issues of interest for the RC/RC Movement such as a Food security platform in 2016 and a Sahel+ Migration network in 2017, and it has acted as a key vehicle for discussing IFRC and ICRC led initiatives and joint programming in the region and for our members.
The 2019 Sahel+ General Assembly established a Resilience Platform, with 3 technical groups working on migration, food security and livelihoods, and shelter.
The Resilience Platform encompasses all 10 Sahel+ members, plus representatives from IFRC, ICRC, and interested Partner National Societies, as well as 3 RC/RC Movement’s reference centres: the Livelihoods Centre , the Climate Centre, and the Centre for Cooperation with Africa.
The Platform’s objective is to promote coordination, partnership and cooperation within the RC/RC Movement in the Sahel, as well as with external stakeholders.
The Migration Technical Group brings together migration focal points of the Sahel+ Resilience Platform members. Its mission is to offer a framework for reflexion, research, sharing of experiences, skills, information and lessons learnt, and cooperation on migration issues, between Sahel+ members, and RC/RC Movement actors.
The Food Security and Livelihoods Technical Group brings together Livelihoods focal points of the Sahel+ Resilience Platform members. It constitutes a space where members can formulate proposals, share experiences and lessons learnt in the field of food security and livelihoods.
